Spears School of Business accounting student Ashlee Jones was selected as an 2019-20 American Institute of CPAs Legacy Scholar and was invited to attend the 2019 AICPA Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop in Denver.
Jones, a senior from McKinney, Texas, received the AICPA Scholarship Award for Minority Accounting Students. The annual two-day conference, created for minority students, aims to strengthen students’ professional skills and understanding of the benefits of attaining their CPA license.
“At the conference, I was exposed to a variety of career options available for CPAs,” she said. “We also discussed the content of the CPA exam, the skills that the exam evaluates and received advice on how to successfully prepare for the exam.”
In addition, Jones and other conference attendees heard from numerous speakers, including Barry Melancon, president and chief executive officer of the AICPA.
“The School of Accounting is very proud of Ashlee’s hard work and leadership,” Audrey Gramling, head of the School of Accounting, said. “She is indeed deserving of the AICPA’s recognition. This recognition also highlights the diverse and inclusive environment we value within the School of Accounting.”
