Edwards elected as prestigious SIOP Fellow

Dr. Bryan Edwards, the Joe Synar Chair and professor of management at the Spears School of Business, has been elected a fellow of the Society for the Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP).

Edwards becomes the second SIOP Fellow from Oklahoma State University.

“SIOP Fellowship is, perhaps, the highest accolade one can receive in our field,” said Dr. James Pappas, head of the Department of Management at Oklahoma State University. “I am ecstatic that Dr. Edwards was recognized for his continuous pursuit of excellence.

“Bryan’s research has been featured in the top journals and he has taught, trained and mentored countless Ph.D. students. Bryan has also been awarded numerous grants that affords the Spears School of Business great national visibility in our pursuit of becoming the preeminent land-grant institution in the U.S.”

Edwards has published impactful work in change and development at multiple levels, human resource management and research methods. His research appears in top journals including Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Business and Psychology, Journal of Management, Organizational Research Methods, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and Human Resource Management.

In addition, he has secured nearly $2 million in research funding from the National Science Foundation, Material Handling Industry of America, the Department of Defense and other public and private agencies.

Edwards serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Applied Psychology, and has also served as an editorial board member for Human Performance, the Journal of Business and Psychology, the Journal of Management and Personnel Psychology.

He served on the SIOP Membership Committee, Scientific Affairs Committee, Awards Committee and Small Grants Committee. He also chaired the Schmidt-Hunter Award Committee.

He joined Spears Business as an assistant professor in the Department of Management in 2009 after previously teaching at Tulane University and Auburn University. In his 14 years at OSU, he also was the executive director for the Eastin Center for Talent Development (2013-16) and has been the Joe Synar Endowed Chair since 2012. He was elevated to full professor in 2021, and is the Ph.D. coordinator in the Department of Management. He has mentored more than 100 Ph.D. students as Ph.D. coordinator, dissertation chair and dissertation committee member.

In addition, Dr. Jennifer Nahrgang, who earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and MBA from OSU, was also elected a SIOP Fellow. She is the Palmer Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of Iowa.
