Spears School of Business faculty member Dr. Lisa Schurer Lambert is the newest recipient of the Southern Management Association’s most prestigious award.

The association is honoring Lambert with the 2024 James G. Hunt SMA Sustained Outstanding Service Award, also known as the Hunt SOSA Award, which annually distinguishes a member who has steadily contributed to SMA’s objectives and purpose throughout multiple years. Lambert, a management professor and a William S. Spears Chair of Business at Oklahoma State University, will accept the accolade Oct. 31 at the 2024 SMA Annual Conference in San Antonio. She is the first faculty member at any of Oklahoma’s higher education institutions to win the award, which was established in 2003.

“I am deeply honored to be awarded the Hunt Sustained Outstanding Service Award by the Southern Management Association,” Lambert said. “I have loved being involved with SMA for almost 20 years and am in awe of how well SMA serves its membership with its commitment to excellence in research, teaching and professional development.”

An SMA fellow, Lambert’s service to the association started with her role as the track chair for the Research Method track. Lambert not only established a relationship between SMA and the Research Methods Division of the Academy of Management, but also played a key role in SMA’s partnership with the Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis, where she is a recurrent instructor.

As SMA’s Program Chair in 2020, Lambert coordinated the association’s online conference, skillfully navigating the then-unfamiliar challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic to make the event run smoothly. She has fulfilled her five-year SMA officer rotation, wrapping up her term in 2023.

“I was not at all surprised that Lisa Schurer Lambert received the Hunt Sustained Outstanding Service Award for her recurring contributions to the Southern Management Academy,” said Dr. James Pappas, head of the Spears Business Department of Management. “Her dedication to research and teaching has not only advanced scientific understanding in the management field, but also inspired countless colleagues and students. With a career marked by pioneering studies and impactful contributions, Lisa’s work has left an indelible mark in the field.”

Before joining OSU’s faculty, Lambert served as an assistant professor and an associate professor with tenure in Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social policy and an MBA from Northwestern University, as well as a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With experience on multiple editorial boards, she has researched employment relationships, leadership, psychological contracts, person-environment fit theory and research methods.

Lambert’s work appears in the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Organizational Research Methods and Psychological Methods. Additionally, she serves as co-editor-in-chief of Organizational Research Methods.

Lambert’s recent honor is named for the late James G. “Jerry” Hunt, the award’s initial recipient, who was a prominent management scholar at Texas Tech.
