OSU-Tulsa receives high scores on student satisfaction study

Tuesday, August 9, 2005

Oklahoma State University-Tulsa recently received a significant vote of confidence from its students.

OSU-Tulsa scored its highest marks on the spring 2005 Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Study, a nationally recognized survey which measures students’ perceptions in several areas of the college experience. University officials have used this survey to gather student feedback since OSU-Tulsa’s inception in 1999.

Overall, OSU-Tulsa’s student satisfaction ratings are significantly higher in all 12 categories measured than in other peer institutions in Oklahoma and nationwide. OSU-Tulsa President Gary Trennepohl said he was especially pleased with high satisfaction marks in academic advising, instructional effectiveness, safety and security, financial aid and campus support services.

“In the past five years, we have continuously worked to improve our service to students in these areas," Trennepohl said. “The results clearly show that our efforts, particularly increasing the number of academic advisors and streamlining financial aid procedures, are generating positive results and a rewarding experience for our students.”

The survey covers 12 areas and asks students to rate each area's importance and satisfaction level. Other areas included in the survey were registration effectiveness, concern for the individual, campus climate, service excellence, student-centeredness, campus life and responsiveness to diverse populations. Trennepohl said the results reveal how satisfied students are, as well as what issues are priorities to them.

In all areas, OSU-Tulsa students reported greater satisfaction over national group means.

“This analysis serves as a blueprint for measuring and improving OSU-Tulsa’s effectiveness,” Trennepohl said. “There is satisfaction in knowing we are moving in the right direction. However, we will continue to find opportunities to increase the success of our students.”
