A four-member team of Oklahoma State University biosystems and agricultural engineering students won first place in a national design competition for their creation of a new cattle chute.

William Ryan Haar, Matthew Kilker, Taylor Miller, and Joseph Biggerstaff took top honors in the AGCO National Student Design Competition, which was held during the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers' annual meeting in Portland, Oregon, in July.

The students designed and built the manual cattle chute as part of a yearlong senior design class. They received certificates of recognition and an engraved name board, plus they will split $1,250 in prize money. Their department also will receive a wall plaque and a $300 cash prize.
