Oklahoma State to Honor Faculty With Regents Teaching and Research Awards

Ten Oklahoma State University faculty members will be honored as recipients of the 2006 Regents Distinguished Teaching Award at OSU’s Fall Convocation in October, and nine other faculty members will be recognized for receiving the Regents Distinguished Research Award.

The 19 recipients were approved during the OAU/A&M Board of Regents meeting on Sept. 15 in Stillwater. This will be the 16th year in which teaching awards will be presented, and the fourth year in which research awards will be presented, according to OSU System CEO and President David J. Schmidly.

Selected to receive Regents Distinguished Teaching Awards are Dr. D. Dwayne Cartmell II, assistant professor of agricultural education, communication and 4-H; Dr. Edward P. Walkiewicz, professor of English; Dr. Donald P. French, professor of zoology; Dr. Kenneth M. Gilley, associate professor of management; Dr. Pamela U. Brown, associate professor of teaching and curriculum leadership; Suzanne D. Bilbeisi, professor of architecture; Dr. William E. Ryan III, associate professor of hotel and restaurant administration; Dr. Jerry W. Ritchey, associate professor of pathobiology; Dr. Kirby L. Jarolim, professor and chair of anatomy and cell biology at the OSU Center for Health Sciences; and Dr. William S. Eddy, associate professor and director, family medicine, Center for Health Sciences.

Research awards, which recognize research excellence including creative scholarly activities, will go to Dr. John B. Solie, professor and Sarkeys Professor of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering; Dr. Lionel M. Raff, Regents Professor of Chemistry; Dr. James F. Cooper Jr., professor of history; Dr. Dan Rickman, professor and OG&E Chair of Economics and Legal Studies; Dr. Honyu Wang, assistant professor of teaching and curriculum leadership; Dr. Don A. Lucca, Regents Professor and Cunningham Chair of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Dr. Laura E. Hubbs, professor and J & S Taylor Professor of Human Development and Family Science; Dr. Lin Liu, professor of physiological sciences; and Dr. Craig W. Stevens, professor of pharmacology and physiology at the OSU Center for Health Sciences.

In each category, each college has one annual recipient except for Arts and Sciences, which has two. Recipients will receive a plaque and a permanent salary increment of $1,000, plus fringe benefits on top of normal merit increases recommended by respective department heads.
