Friday, April 13, 2007
State Chancellor for Higher Education Glen Johnson spoke to an entrepreneurial business
class from the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater
on Thursday. Johnson discussed the structure of the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education,
leadership, and entrepreneurship. He stressed the importance of perseverance, and
fielded direct questions from the students, which is a routine practice for the class.
“It was an honor for us to have Chancellor Johnson speak in our MGMT 3023 Entrepreneurship Fundamentals Class in the Spears School of Business,” said Dr. Joretta Nord, professor of Management Science and Information Systems. “This class has provided a great opportunity for our students to be informed and inspired by listening to and interacting with successful leaders and entrepreneurs.”
The Entrepreneurship Fundamentals class in the Spears School of Business is designed as a “speaker series.” Guests include successful entrepreneurs, government officials, venture capitalists, university officials, and others. The presentations are on a variety of topics, most of which involve the entrepreneurship process, economic development, technology transfer, and resources available to entrepreneurs.
Students are required to research each speaker prior to his/her presentation, take exams over the content of the speaker’s presentation, conduct an extensive interview with an entrepreneur, and attend receptions and dinners held in the speaker’s honor. The class is popular, with 175 students enrolled this semester.
