Oklahoma State University graduate students Udaya Gouty and Chia-Lin Huang have been awarded the first OSU Education for All Scholarships this semester.
These $500 scholarships were awarded to international graduate students who show exemplary academic performance in their educational experience.
Gouty is from Hyderabad, India, and is working toward his master’s degree in mechanical engineering, and Huang, from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is working toward her master’s degree in therapeutic recreation.
This scholarship was begun this semester by a group of alumni who wanted to give back to the institution and help other international students with some financial need, said Regina Henry, coordinator of immigration in the Office of International Students and Scholars.
“These alumni decided they wanted to give scholarships this spring, and they wrote up the criteria,” Henry said. “They said they believe education is the vital tool of success and thank Oklahoma State University for providing them with a wonderful opportunity.”
She said the scholarship’s criteria included that the recipients could not have a graduate assistantship and was intended to assist students who had to pay out-of-state tuition.
