Goodwin to deliver 2007 Paul Miller Lecture
Wednesday, April 4, 2007
James O. Goodwin, publisher of the Oklahoma Eagle, the first and only newspaper to exclusively serve the Black community in Tulsa, will deliver the 20th annual Paul Miller Lecture on Friday, April 13, at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Union Theatre.
A gift from the Paul Miller Family Foundation partially funds the lecture series. Miller, who graduated from Oklahoma State University School of Journalism and Broadcasting in 1931, distinguished himself as the president of the Associated Press and the Gannett Company.
The Oklahoma Eagle was founded immediately after the devastating race riots in 1921 and has continually been published since then under the management of only a few owners. Goodwin’s father, E.L. Goodwin Sr., purchased the paper in 1935, and it has been in the hands of the family since that time. Goodwin is also a celebrated attorney in Tulsa, a member of both the Tulsa County and Oklahoma Bar Associations, the American Bar Association, the American Inns of Court and Master of the Bar member. He is also a member of the OSU-Tulsa Board of Trustees and a former Bank of Oklahoma Board of Directors member.
The lecture is open to the public, and all are invited to attend.
