Thursday, February 8, 2007
The Oklahoma State University Non-Traditional Student Organization will host the 10th
Annual Association for Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education Conference on
March 23-25.
More than 50 universities nationwide are expected to send representatives to the conference,
according to Marie Basler, conference coordinator and OSU coordinator of the NTSO,
and more than 20 educational sessions are scheduled for staff, students and spouses/partners
of non-traditional students.
Debra Carlson of St. Cloud State University is scheduled to give the keynote address
on March 23 on assessing adult student strengths and engaging those strengths in campus
leadership.
Carlson has spent 25 years working in support of non-traditional students as director
of St. Cloud State University’s Lindgren Child Care Center. She also has served as
interim Student Judicial Officer for one year and as Affirmative Action Officer for
three years, and serves on the university’s Alumni Board of Directors. She received
her master’s degree in public policy from the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public
Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
Registration for the conference ranges from $60 for one day up to $280 for professional
non-members.
“There is no deadline for registering, but we would like to have people register
by March 9 or as early as possible due to banquet requirements,” Basler said.
