OSU celebrates expansion of Donald W. Reynolds School of Architecture Building
OSU celebrated the start of the renovation and expansion of the Donald W. Reynolds School of Architecture Building in a ceremony today. The majority of the $16 million project is being funded through a $14.8 million gift from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. The project will add two wings to the existing building, dedicated in 1920 as the New Armory-Gymnasium, creating a total of more than 70,000 square feet for classrooms, studios, faculty office space, a library and a gallery. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2009.  For more information, click here .

Lanners attracts praise for new CD
OSU Professor of Piano Thomas Lanners' latest CD release, titled “Ned Rorem: The Three Piano Sonatas,” gets a glowing review in the current (Nov./Dec. 2007) issue of American Record Guide, one of the two prominent magazines in North America dedicated to reviews of classical recordings. Critic Mark Lehman wrote of the works on the disc:
“Their clarity, sparkle, wit, sentiment, brio, and idiomatic pianism are a continual pleasure. ... their lapidary craftsmanship and formal perfection will please the most discriminating connoisseur. ... It¹s especially pleasing to have all three of Rorem’s sonatas on one disc, superbly played by Thomas Lanners, and in clear, vivid sound. Lanners’ informative and enlightening notes are models of graceful writing, too. Anyone who cares about mainstream 20th Century piano music should seek out this superlative recording.”

Wellness tip: Skipping meals

A recent survey indicated that up to 70 percent of Americans skip breakfast. It also found that up to 40 percent skip lunch. Skipping meals can lead to excessive hunger and overeating later in the day or evening. It can also lead to low blood sugar, moodiness and fatigue. Consider keeping healthy snacks around you. Examples include low fat yogurt, string cheese, dried fruit, whole grain cereals and nuts. They can come in very handy if you need to miss a meal. Wellness tips are brought to you by the OSU Seretean Wellness Center, dedicated to making OSU the Healthiest Campus in America. For more information about services for students, faculty and staff, call 744-WELL (9355).
