OSU A&M Board of Regents Begins Advertising for Applicants to Fill OSU and System Presidency
Wednesday, June 20, 2007
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The OSU/A&M Board of Regents has launched a national advertising
initiative seeking applicants for the position of President of Oklahoma State University
(OSU) and the statewide OSU System, announced Regent Douglas E. Burns, Chairman of
the OSU Presidential Search Committee.
The ad, developed after search committee members prepared a position description outlining
the qualifications sought in the next OSU President, will appear in several national
publications including the Chronicle of Higher Education, Affirmative Action Register,
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education and The Hispanic Outlook. The ad will also appear
in the Oklahoman and Tulsa World as well as several major websites including Higheredjobs.com,
America’s Job Bank and the OSU job website. The advertising program will begin June
29 and run through early August.
OSU is seeking a president who shares the values of the land-grant university and
will build upon its considerable strengths to achieve greater prominence for its research,
undergraduate and graduate programs, according to the ad. In addition, the successful
candidate must be a demonstrated leader showing an ability to use insight, enthusiasm,
advocacy and judgment to inspire support of OSU strategic plans and programs.
“We have every confidence the search committee will have several impressive candidates
to consider,” commented Burns. “As one of the nation’s distinguished land-grant
universities, OSU has tremendous potential, making strides in recent years on the
academic, research and outreach fronts. OSU touches almost every aspect of life in
Oklahoma as The State’s University. Because of OSU’s expanding reach and opportunity,
we believe with dynamic leadership and proper funding OSU can become one of the premier
land-grant universities in the United States in the coming years.”
The deadline to submit nominations and applications is August 17, 2007. The ad says
screening will continue until the position is filled.
The search committee will review the applicants and select finalists to interview.
The OSU/A&M Board of Regents will receive the recommendations from the search committee
and will make the final selection. While there is no specific time line, the Regents
have indicated they desire to appoint a new president for OSU and the System sometime
this fall. “We will take as much time as needed to make sure we select the right
person to lead OSU and the System. The seriousness of this task requires us to move
diligently and deliberately,” Burns said.
The OSU/A&M Board of Regents is the governing board for Oklahoma State University
(OSU) in Stillwater and the OSU System including the Center for Veterinary Health
Sciences in Stillwater, Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa, OSU-Tulsa, OSU-Oklahoma
City, OSU-Okmulgee as well as Langston University, Langston; Connors State College
in Warner; Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell; and Northeastern Oklahoma
A&M College in Miami.
