OSU/A&M Regents approve new rates for residential life
Friday, March 2, 2007
(Stillwater, OK) - The Board of Regents for Oklahoma A&M Colleges approved new room
rates for 2007-2008 at Oklahoma State University. The 4 percent increase is based
on 9-month rates and includes all single-student housing. Rates for university apartments
(family housing) will remain the same.
OSU offers a wide range of housing options and the increase in monthly costs varies
with the type of housing. A shared traditional hall room, for example, will increase
at least $13 a month while a private 1bed/1/bath located in one of the deluxe suites
facilities will increase $26 a month.
The monthly cost to students includes room, utilities, cable TV, internet access and
local phone service for most housing facilities.
The rise in residential rates is driven by an increase in the following expenses:
• 17% increase in student wages/minimum wage increase
• 8.4% increase in debt service (nearly $1 million)
• 5.4% increase in all fulltime labor (to pay an anticipated salary program and
a benefits increase of 8%; also includes physical plant employees)
• 5.1% increase in university overhead charges
