University Health Services receives accreditation
Wednesday, October 17, 2007
Oklahoma State University Health Services has achieved accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, according to Steve Rogers, University Health Services director.
Status as an accredited organization means University Health Services has passed a series of rigorous and nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by the Accreditation Association. The AAAHC accredits over 3000 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States.
“Accreditation underscores our long-standing commitment to providing the highest possible
levels of quality care to the community we serve,” Rogers said. “We are pleased and
proud to have our efforts recognized with this accreditation.” This is the fifth consecutive
three-year accreditation award from University Health Services, dating back to 1995.
Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by the AAAHC undergo an
extensive on-site, peer-based survey of their facilities and services. Not all ambulatory
health care organizations seek accreditation, and not all that undergo the on-site
survey are granted accreditation.
Among the types of ambulatory health care organizations that can seek AAAHC accreditation
are ambulatory and office-based surgery centers, single and multi-specialty group
practices, college health centers, dental group practices, community health centers,
occupational health centers and managed care organizations.
UHS is the ambulatory care facility on the OSU campus for students who become ill
or injured. With a staff of 40 that includes six physicians and a physician associate,
13 nurses and other health professionals, UHS provides over 26,000 annual medical
visits.
