Campus violence prevention and preparedness to take center stage at OSU

(STILLWATER, OK – April 16, 2008) Oklahoma State University will host a one day seminar
concerning campus violence preparedness. “When Violence Comes to Campus: A Seminar
on Preparedness” will be held Thursday, April 24 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The seminar, sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the office
of the OSU Vice President for Student Affairs and the OSU Center for the Study of
Disasters and Extreme Events, is presented by Dr. John Nicoletti, co-author of “Violence
Goes to College: The Authoritative Guide to Prevention and Intervention.” Nicoletti
is a clinical/police psychologist who specializes in identifying, assessing and defusing
attack related behaviors and violence in various workplaces, campuses and schools.
The keynote speaker during the seminar luncheon will be Darci Thompson, MSW, LCSW
from the University of Arizona. Thompson is an expert in employee assistance and preventing
and addressing workplace violence.
“OSU is proud to be hosting this event which focuses on such an important and timely
issue,” said OSU Vice President for Student Affairs Lee Bird. “We are encouraging
campuses to send existing and proposed members of their threat assessment and response
teams.”
