(October 28, 2008 Stillwater, OK) - Angela Colwell is an Oklahoma Serves Member with Americorps, and between Sept. 2 and Dec. 31 of this year, she will have spent 300 hours as a volunteer for them. She also volunteers regularly at the Stillwater Humane Society, the Stillwater Children’s Museum, and Animal Aid of Tulsa. She plans to spend two weeks next summer in Costa Rica as a volunteer for International Student Volunteers.

“For me, volunteering isn’t an extracurricular activity,” Colwell said. “It is, and always has been, a part of who I am. I work with pets and children because they are vulnerable and they need someone on their side. When I volunteer, I think of it as an investment in some larger plan.”

The OSU Service-Learning Volunteer Center, located in 030B Student Union, promotes the interaction of volunteer work and education. Last year, more than 8,500 OSU students volunteered more than 60,000 hours in the community. Each week the center will present a Servant Leadership Award to an outstanding OSU student volunteer.
