“Stacy’s legal experience, coupled with her knowledge of broadcasting, will add a new dimension to our coverage of Oklahoma business and legal issues,” said Kelly Burley, KOSU Executive Director.  “Her knowledge will be extremely valuable to our listeners, especially as we prepare for the 2009 Oklahoma Legislative session.”

Acord represents numerous trucking, business and industrial clients and her legal and broadcasting experience is used to assist in dispute resolution in both legal and administrative proceedings.  Stacy was recently honored as a recipient of The Journal Record’s 2008 Achiever’s Under 40 award, recognizing a select group of Oklahomans for their significant achievements and contributions to their community and state.

She is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts in the Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Oklahoma and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Stacy is a member of the American, Oklahoma and Tulsa County Bar Associations and has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Association of Defense Counsel and the Tulsa chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. In addition, Acord serves as a speaker for the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Lawyers in the Classroom program and for the Tulsa County Bar Association’s Law Related Education/Speaker’s Bureau.

Stacy graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. She was a reporter and producer with KOSU and an associate producer at KWTV in Oklahoma City before pursuing her law degree from the University of Oklahoma.  While in law school, Acord was a member of the prestigious Phi Delta Phi academic fraternity, and earned several American Jurisprudence Awards.

“Most small business owners are working so hard and putting everything they have into making their businesses thrive and they don’t take time to make sure they have all the necessary protections in place for their businesses, Acord said.  “I am excited to team with KOSU to offer these weekly tidbits on legal issues to help those business owners stay compliant with the laws and protect what they have worked so hard to build.“
