Law signed allowing Hargis to become OSU President next month

Thursday, February 28, 2008

Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry signed House Bill 2297 Thursday at the State Capitol, which will allow Burns Hargis to assume the presidency at OSU next month.  House Bill 2297 reduces the amount of time a former regent must wait before going to work for a university from 12 months to six months.  The OSU/A&M Board of Regents is expected to approve Hargis’ compensation and starting date at its March 7 meeting in Stillwater.  OSU Regent Chair Lou Watkins said, “We commend the House, Senate and Governor’s office for expeditiously moving this important measure forward.  Burns Hargis will make an exceptional President of OSU and the System.  As an OSU graduate, he has an inherent passion for OSU and will inspire us to work together to enhance OSU’s many contributions to higher education, research, extension and the State of Oklahoma in general.”
