Governors join OSU president for new bioenergy lab event
Gov. Brad Henry and former Gov. Henry Bellmon joined new OSU President Burns Hargis to mark the start of construction on the new $1.2 million OSU Bioenergy Laboratory today at the ConocoPhillips Alumni Center at OSU. The OSU Bioenergy Laboratory will be built next to an existing biofuels research building west of the OSU campus. The facility, part of the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station under OSU’s Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, will add almost 3,000 square feet of space for the development of technologies that transform crops into fuels and other value-added products. The lab will enable researchers to scale up and test processes, such as OSU’s novel biofuels conversion from switchgrass, as an important step toward the eventual creation of pilot plants, and new collaborations with industry. It also will support several OSU bioconversion research projects funded by the Oklahoma Bioenergy Center established by Gov. Henry in 2007. Regents approve 2008-09 residential hall rates

The OSU/A&M Board of Regents today approved a 4 percent rate increase for all on-campus housing and a $50 increase on all meal plans. The increase is based on 9-month rates for single university housing and 12-month rates for family graduate residential housing.  The family housing rates will be effective July 1, 2008 with single residential housing rate increases beginning at the start of 2008 fall semester. The increase, to keep pace with mandatory cost increases for debt service, wages and benefits, utilities, and food, as well as maintenance upgrades for residential facilities, is smaller than most other Big 12 institutions and will place rates in OSU traditional residence halls 11th in the Big 12 and more than $700 below the average. The cost and increase varies with the type of housing.  For instance, a shared traditional dorm room will increase $14 a month while a private one-bed/one-bath in a furnished deluxe suite will increase $27 per month.
