(March 28, 2008  STILLWATER, Okla.) – The Oklahoma State University Jazz Festival will feature the performance of jazz trumpeter Tito Carrillo on April 5 in Stillwater.

The concert, which is open to the public, is at 8 p.m. on April 5 at the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts in Stillwater.

“Tito Carrillo is a brilliant trumpeter and music educator,” said Jake Walburn, director of the OSU Jazz Ensemble. “We hope the festival will expose our audience to the jazz music scene in Oklahoma and let them experience the evolution of jazz taking place today.”

Carrillo, an assistant professor of jazz trumpet at the University of Illinois, is a fixture in the Chicago jazz and Latin music scenes. He has played at some of the most prestigious venues in the world including Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Carrillo also has performed with Latin jazz giants that include Tito Puente and pop icons Quincy Jones and Phil Collins.

Performances by OSU jazz musicians are planned. “Some of our finest and most creative students in the music department will perform,” said Walburn.

Tickets for the concert may be purchased at the Seretean Center box office. Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens, and $7 for the general public. The masterclass and seminar are free and open to the public.
