(Stillwater, OK   April 18, 2008) - A graphic design intern at the OSU Library whose exemplary service kept the publication of the book, “The Campus OAMC,” on schedule is the 2007-08 Oklahoma State University Student Employee of the Year.

Ruth Mudroch, a senior art major from Owasso, was honored April 17 during a reception in Willard Hall Living Room. She was chosen from six finalists out of 37 nominees in the annual recognition program sponsored by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid and OSU Career Services.

Mudroch simultaneously learned she had also won the regional Student Employee of the Year title sponsored by the Southern Association of Student Employment Administrators. Chosen from among more than 50 students from 19 institutions in the 12-state region, she is the second OSU student to receive the SASEA award since 2005.

Mudroch has worked the past two years at the OSU Library, initially as a student assistant and more recently as a graphic design intern. She was nominated for the award by Bonnie Ann Cain, coordinator of communications and publications for the library.

In Mudroch’s nomination letter, Cain described an instance in which Mudroch suffered an accident and broke two teeth, but had a third party phone in word from the emergency room that she wouldn’t return to work that afternoon.

Mudroch also distinguished herself when the prospective publisher of “The Campus OAMC,” withdrew its offer to design the coffee table book. Working with the publisher and uniting Special Collections and the communications and publications offices, Mudroch took on the library’s in-house design of the book as well as project manager duties, according to Cain.

“I wonder if we ever would have seen it without Ruth,” Cain said. “I know we wouldn’t have ever seen it in January 2008 without her.

“I have no doubt that Ruth’s reliability, work quality, initiative, professional and unique contributions maker her one of the most outstanding student employees on campus today,” Cain said.

Finalists for the 2007-08 OSU Student Employee of the Year award included Lindsey Schultheiss, student coordinator in the New Student Orientation office; Sandra Ward, student worker in the College of Arts and Sciences development office; Katy Brookman, student clerical/secretarial assistant in the plant and soil sciences department; Joshua Higgs, recruitment and web design master in the animal science department; and Heather Custar, student clerical assistant in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology dean’s office.
