(STILLWATER, OK – April 11, 2008) – Approximately 900 Oklahoma State University students will roll up their sleeves Saturday for the OSU Big Event. Sponsored by the OSU Student Government Association, the annual community service project is organized and coordinated entirely by students.

Randis Gallaway, chair of this year’s Big Event, said students will complete more than 150 jobs tomorrow.

“We (students) can have a huge impact on this community on this one day,” Gallaway said.  “Students are able to reach out and help residents who simply aren’t able to do many of the projects themselves.”

Student volunteers will perform various jobs for residents in Stillwater and Perkins.

“One of the most meaningful lessons we try to instill in all our students at OSU is the importance of community involvement,” said OSU President Burns Hargis.

Hargis continued, “The Big Event is just one of the many ways our students reach out to the Stillwater community and give back to the city that becomes their home during their college years.”

The Big Event was started at Texas A&M University in 1982. Now more than 60 universities across the nation participate.
