(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – June 20, 2008) – A proposal for a Department of Entrepreneurship in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University is headed to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for approval, following approval today by the OSU/A&M Board of Regents in its regular meeting in Oklahoma City.
The Spears School of Business is in the process of expanding it entrepreneurship curriculum and activities. Currently OSU offers an option in entrepreneurship in the Department of Management. If approved by state regents this option would be moved to the new department and expanded to include both an entrepreneurship major and minor.
“The creation of this department within the Spears School of Business allows OSU to put a real emphasis on a growing segment of the business world,” said Sara Freedman, Dean of the Spears School of Business. “We are excited about the opportunity to provide real leadership in the state and in the higher education community in the study of entrepreneurship.”
Additional costs associated with the new department will be absorbed with existing funds through internal reallocation in the Spears School of Business or through private donations.
Current policy requires any changes in academic structure of an instructional unit,
which would include the creation of a new department, be approved by the Oklahoma
Chancellor of Higher Education and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
