Parents return for Family Weekend 2008
Thursday, September 25, 2008
Oklahoma State University’s Family Weekend 2008, designed to bring students and family
members together on the Stillwater campus for a weekend of fun, fellowship and recognition,
is this weekend.
Numerous fun activities for family members of all ages will begin on Friday and continue
through Saturday with the football game against Troy. Tickets for the Parents Association
brunch sold out early.
The eight 2008 recipients of the Parents Association Scholarship will be recognized
at the brunch. Scholarships are made possible through membership dues and fund-raising
activities such as the finals week care package program.
Fran Gragg, coordinator of the Parents Association, said the number of association
members has continued to climb since the group was organized in 2004. Today, more
than 3,000 parents take part in association activities in chapters in Oklahoma and
Texas. Group members purchased a record number of nearly 2,700 tickets for Saturday’s
football game; plus many members are season ticket holders.
Friday activities include the Aili Schmeltz Exhibition at the Gardiner Art Gallery;
Cowgirl soccer vs. Texas Tech, and the Fridays at the Fountain pep rally.
Saturday activities include the morning Crop Walk for hunger at Boomer Lake; a carnival
that include an Orange Pie Eating Contest; Gameday at the Union, and the Hall of Fame
Block Party on the north side of Boone Pickens Stadium.
