Thursday, September 25, 2008

(September 25, 2008  Okmulgee) – Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology will host the 2nd Annual “Career Encounters of the Orange Kind” on Tuesday, October 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the OSUIT campus in Okmulgee.  “Career Encounters” will present hands-on demonstrations of technologies that are taught at the university.  Information on admissions, financial aid and on-campus housing will also be presented. The event is for high school seniors and adult learners who want to know more about the programs offered at the university and the prospects for high-paying careers after graduation.

All academic divisions on campus will be presenting demonstrations relating to their technical degree programs, ranging from culinary classes to automotive, information technologies, construction, engineering technologies, nursing, orthotics and prosthetics, watchmaking and visual communications.  Many industry representatives will be on hand at the event, which also will give attendees an idea of the types of businesses that typically recruit OSU Institute of Technology graduates.

Steven Rubert, OSU Institute of Technology director of special events and services, said, “The great thing about Career Encounters is that it really shows what sets us apart from other institutions; that we offer a high-performance technical education that leads directly to a high-paying job.  With over 90% job placement among graduates and a majority of degrees that are obtainable in two years, we provide a fast track to a successful career.”

In addition to the many associate in science and associate in applied science degrees, OSU Institute of Technology also offers three bachelor of technology degrees -- civil engineering technology; instrumentation engineering technology; and information assurance and forensics.

Online registration for Career Encounters is free, fast and easy. Pre-registration is required.  Students who register before the event will be entered into a drawing for a Nintendo Wii!
