(Stillwater, OK  April 17, 2009) -- The Oklahoma State University Student Employee of the Year winner and finalists were announced April 16 in an Awards Ceremony in the ConocoPhillips Alumni Center. This year there were nominations from various employers within the OSU and Stillwater communities. Six outstanding finalists were selected, and an overall winner was chosen

This year’s Student Employee of the Year Award winner is Sherri Treat, a mechanical engineering junior from Beggs and an employee of the OSU College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Student Services. Treat has worked as a success coach and as a student assistant to the coordinator for the CEAT Academic Excellence Program for two years.

“On her first full work day, she came in, nosed through the files left by my previous assistant, and hit the ground running. We accomplished more in that one week than I ever thought possible,” said Susan Phillips, who nominated Treat for the award.

She was also nominated by Diane Caneday.  “I see and review everything Sherri submits and have never found her to make mistakes. She always meets my deadlines which permits me to get all my university deadlines met for payroll approval,” Caneday said. “She gives me a report that is phenomenal. It is easy to use and always correct. She makes my life easier since taking care of that many student employees every two weeks would definitely be a challenge.”

Other finalists were:

Alexis Alarcon of Yukon, is a second-year federal work-study tutor. She works one-on-one with third grade students at Skyline Elementary to improve their reading and math skills. As an elementary education senior, she is gaining valuable work experience while at the same time performing a much-needed service for the community. Alarcon was nominated by Bonnie Petty and third grade teachers Michelle Biggs, Natalie Fluty, Becky Dyson and Brittany Mason.

Jacob Couch of Oklahoma City, a computer science and electrical engineering major, is an IT student security analyst. He has worked at the OSU Information Technology Security Office for over two years. He has been a key player on many security initiatives including SafeBoot, infrastructure upgrades, and TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention. Couch was nominated by Craig Edgmand and Eric Maynard for his tireless pursuit of excellence and for handling every challenge with professionalism and enthusiasm.

Alisson Graham of Perkins, a nutritional sciences sophomore, is the administrative assistant at Payne County CASA for Children (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Graham was nominated by Carmen Miller, CASA Program director, for her remarkable level of commitment, integrity, efficiency, and professionalism while handling the daily office functions and various fundraising events.

Katie Murray of Clinton, a psychology senior, is an office assistant in the Management Science and Information Systems/Institute for Research in Information Systems. She was nominated for her thoroughness, initiative, dependability, and for consistently going above and beyond the call of duty to get the job done. Among her nominators were Ramesh Sharda, David Biros, Rick Wilson, Darlene Croci and Joyce Lucca.

Taryn Tate of Shawnee, a nutritional sciences senior, is a student employee of OSU Career Services. The OSU Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid and OSU Career Services would like everyone to join them in showing appreciation for student employees and in congratulating the nominees, finalists and winner of the 2009 OSU Student Employee of the Year Award.
