Building envelope
Why is it important to keep windows closed in OSU buildings? Open windows impact
temperature and humidity control, plus the control of air pressure within a building,
especially when the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system is running. Keeping windows closed allows the system designed to control the
indoor environment to work properly and seals the building envelope, which is the separation between the interior and exterior environments of a building.
Are you an outdoor exerciser? If so, wear sunscreen. Even on a cloudy or cool day, your skin needs protection. We suggest choosing an alcohol- or water-based sunscreen. These allow sweat to evaporate more quickly than oil-based sunscreens. Last but not least, use a minimum of SPF 15. Reapply often.Wellness tips are brought to you by the OSU Seretean Wellness Center, dedicated to making OSU the Healthiest Campus in America. What does “going green” mean? The definition is: “The social phenomenon describing
individuals who use their consumer voice to increase sustainability and decrease their
impact on the environment.” How is OSU “going green?” Through education and opportunities
for energy savings and waste reduction. What small changes are you making everyday
to “go green for a brighter orange”? https://www.wecanlivegreen.com/greenliving/goinggreen.html
Are you a vegetarian or mostly a vegetarian? Our registered dietitian recommends consuming plenty of iron-rich plant foods such as lentils, kidney beans, black beans, dark green leafy vegetables, dried fruit and whole grains. Iron-enriched products such as cereals and breads are also good sources. To enhance iron absorption, consume vitamin C-rich foods at the same time you eat iron-containing foods. These include strawberries, green peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and citrus fruits. Most non-meat eaters who follow these guidelines will get enough iron. Wellness tips are brought to you by the OSU Seretean Wellness Center, dedicated to making OSU the Healthiest Campus in America. For more information about services for students, faculty and staff, call 744-WELL (9355).

Many adults complain about lower-back pain. One cause is tight hamstring muscles. Here’s a safe, simple way to stretch them. Lie face-up on the floor. Bend your knees keeping your feet on the floor. Reach under the right knee with both hands and pull your knee toward your chest; hold the stretch for 15–30 seconds. From this position, loop a towel around the ankle or calf, and extend your leg toward the ceiling. Keeping your leg straight, slowly pull the towel towards your face. Hold for 15–30 seconds. Switch sides and repeat. Stretch each leg four–five times, three days per week. This wellness tip is brought to you by OSU Seretean Wellness Center, dedicated to making OSU the Healthiest Campus in America.
