Boone Pickens Plans Town Hall Meeting at His Alma Mater Oklahoma State University in Stillwater on October 29

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

(STILLWATER, OK – OCTOBER 14, 2009) – Oklahoma State University benefactor and national energy leader, T. Boone Pickens, will return to his alma mater later this month to conduct a Pickens Plan town hall meeting on the nation’s movement towards a new energy future.

“The single biggest crisis facing America today is without question our ever-growing dependence on foreign oil from hostile nations.  We continue to put our economy and security in danger.  Recent developments in the Middle East with Iran once again underscore the grave risk our country faces if we do not move to address this issue,” Pickens said.

“The time is right and we are seeing positive movement in Washington D.C. to reverse decades of inaction with smart initiatives to use American-produced energy sources in the way of natural gas, wind and solar to power our economy. I will have the latest on our historic efforts at the town hall meeting at Oklahoma State University.”

“We are honored and very excited to host Mr. Pickens, as he brings his message to our campus and our community,” said OSU President Burns Hargis.  “No one has done more in recent time to bring energy to the forefront of our nation’s conscientiousness than Boone Pickens.  His passionate effort has literally changed the conversation about energy and our need to build a new energy future built on American alternative and renewable energy sources. The town hall meeting at Oklahoma State is time to show our support as well as appreciation to Boone for what he is doing to put America on a more prosperous track in the future and stop the massive transfer of wealth overseas now taking place every month to the tune of $25 billion.”

The town hall meeting will be held in Gallagher-Iba Arena Thursday, October 29 at 3:30 p.m.  Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and parking will be available on the north side of Boone Pickens Stadium.

“I am looking forward to this town hall meeting,” Pickens said.  “I love Oklahoma State and I know Oklahoma has a major role to play in America’s new energy future because it is situated in the wind corridor and has been blessed with an abundance of natural gas.”

Since launching the Pickens Plan, Pickens has addressed thousands of people at town hall meetings across the country.  This marks only the second town hall meeting held in Oklahoma.  The first was in McAlester last year where more than 2,000 people attended.

Unveiled on July 8, 2008, the Pickens Plan is a detailed solution for ending the United States’ growing dependence on foreign oil.  It calls for investing in power generation from domestic renewable resources such as wind and using America’s abundant supply of natural gas as a transportation fuel, which would, replace more than one-third of our imported oil.

More than 1.6 million have joined the Pickens Plan through the website http://www.pickensplan.com, which has had nearly 20 million hits.
