Future Cowboys Turn Out for Legacy Day

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

(STILLWATER, Okla., November 3, 2009) – The Oklahoma State University Alumni Association held its third-annual Legacy Day at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center on Saturday, October 31. The purpose of the event is to connect the children of alumni members with OSU through a fun-filled day aimed at teaching them about OSU.

“It’s all about exposing my son to OSU traditions,” said former student Clay Gregory.  “I’m trying to convince my son that OSU is the school he needs to go to.”

Events included photos with Pistol Pete, a costume contest for both Legacies and adults, a pep rally with the Cowboy Marching Band and photos with Bullet.  There were a number of activities for kids to participate in such as Pin the Tail on Bullet, an OSU memory and trivia games and an opportunity to make an OSU picture frame.

Anitra Sires, ’99, has three sons in the Legacy program, all of whom attended Saturday’s event.

“We had a great time,” said Sires. “It shows my kids that OSU is important and they get to experience that early on with events like Legacy Day.”

“Being a part of the Alumni Association is all about expressing our memories and traditions to current students,” Gregory says.  “For my son to be able to sing the fight song at age three and know all the OSU traditions is so important for the future of OSU.”

The Legacy Program is a member-only benefit of the OSU Alumni Association. For more information, visit http://orangeconnection.org/legacy or contact Melisa Parkerson at 405.744.8711.
