Wednesday, August 5, 2009

(August 3, 2009   Stillwater, OK) Thirty-one executives from Oklahoma governmental agencies will attend The 4th Annual Governor's Executive Development Program August 2 through 6 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

This customized executive education program developed especially for top-level state officials is designed around the five Executive Leadership Competencies identified by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, said Oscar Jackson, administrator of the Oklahoma Office of Personnel Management and the Governor's Cabinet Secretary of Human Resources and Administration. Specifically, the program will improve participants’ ability to lead change, lead people, achieve results, and build business acumen, coalitions and communication.

"We are very excited and pleased to be able to provide leaders from state agencies this type of program, which is uniquely designed for top executives in Oklahoma state government," said Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry.

The program will feature sessions from senior faculty members from Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City University.  Instructors and faculty facilitating these sessions include: Richard Little and Trent Gabert from the University of Oklahoma; Robert Dooley, Ken Eastman, Lee Manzer, Debra Nelson, Raj Basu and Mike Morris from Oklahoma State University; and Vince Orza from Oklahoma City University.

In addition, the program will feature executive roundtable discussions addressing some of the hot topics in state government.

"We believe the Governor's Executive Development Program is a valuable asset to our state government leaders,” said Lisa Fortier, director of human resource development services for the Oklahoma Office of Personnel Management. “The involvement of the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University in offering the curriculum seemed a natural match in delivering a top-quality program which provides an opportunity for these executive officials to exchange ideas and learn new skills in an interactive setting."

The Governor's Executive Development Program is hosted by the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma in cooperation with the State Office of Personnel Management.
