(STILLWATER, Okla., March 30, 2009) -- Oklahoma State University graduate students
Erica Mederos, Amanda Mollet, Terrance Smith, and Matt Sullivan have won two awards
from StudentAffairs.com. The site, coupled with fan voting, chose their FERPA training
video first place winner as the Most Creative Video and second place as the Most Educational
Video in their 2009 Case Study Competition.
The video takes a creative approach to describing FERPA, the Family Educational Rights
and Privacy Act of 1974. The video is aimed at educating resident advisors, who deal
with the dissemination of information on a daily basis. It can be used as an educational
tool not only on the OSU campus, but across the country through the StudentAffairs.com
website.
There were 31 teams participating in this year’s case study competition, each creating
two 1-3 minute resident advisor training videos. Out of the 62 entries, 14 were chosen
as finalists, and from this group the winners were selected through on-line voting
and judges’ input.
All of the students are graduate students in the College of Education’s College and
Student Personnel Program. Amanda, of Casper Wyoming, Erica, of Hutchison, Kansas,
and Matt, of Central City, Nebraska, are all graduating in May. Terrance, of Meridian,
Mississippi, is completing his first year of graduate school. As first place winners
each team member receives $150, and $100 each as second place winners.
