Graduate Student Wins Regional Award

(March 3,2009) Kristen Armstrong Myers was awarded the Bob Huss Outstanding Graduate Student Award at the Southwest Association of College and University Housing Officers (SWACUHO) Conference.  The conference was held in Hot Springs, Arkansas February 22-24, 2009.  

Kristen is currently a Residence Director for OSU Housing and Residential Life. Her area of responsibility is the North Monroe Apartment area, and she is supervises a staff of Resident Advisors, advises a hall government, participates in department committees, chairs the Staff Development Committee, and serves on the Social Justice and Inclusion Committee.  In addition, Kristen also serves on the SWACUHO Time and Place Committee.  

Kristen, who is from Celina, Texas, is a third year graduate student in the College of Education’s College and Student Development Program.  As part of her Creative Component she developed a core competency model that the OSU Department of Housing and Residential Life adopted as their evaluation tool for the Resident Directors.  Kristen presented a program on the core competency model at this year’s SWACHO conference.

The Outstanding Graduate Student Award was named last year in honor of Dr. Bob Huss, who was the Director of Housing and Residential Life at Oklahoma State University.  Dr. Huss retired in 2007 after 23 years of service.
