IQ expert to address creativity on April 29 at OSU

Social sciences lecture is free and open to the public.
(April 17, 2009, STILLWATER, Okla.) – Robert Sternberg, director of the Center for
the Psychology of Abilities, Competencies and Expertise (PACE) at Tufts University,
will deliver a lecture on creativity at 7 p.m. on April 29 in Room 106 of the Noble
Research Center at Oklahoma State University.
Sternberg’s lecture, titled “Creativity is a Decision,” will complement his most recent
publications, Defying The Crowd: Cultivating Creativity in a Culture of Conformity
and Creativity: From Potential to Realization.
“Dr. Sternberg is recognized as one of the foremost experts on intelligence and creativity,”
said Melanie Page, associate professor of psychology at OSU.
“The audience will have an amazing opportunity to hear one of the top 10 psychological
researchers in the world,” said Page. “Given OSU’s focus on creativity, we are especially
excited to have him discuss his work on becoming more creative.”
Sternberg is a psychology professor and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at
Tufts. Prior to Tufts, he was at Yale University where he served as the IBM Professor
of Psychology and Education, and a professor of management. He also was the director
of the PACE Center, which is now based at Tufts.
The PACE Center is dedicated to the advancement of theory, research, practice, and
public policy that advances intelligence as modifiable and capable. “The goal of PACE
is to promote that IQ is not something that one is simply born with, but that we can
develop IQ throughout our lives,” said Page.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Following the lecture, the OSU Creativity
Initiative and the OSU Psychology Graduate Students Association will host a reception.
