(January 21, 2008   Stillwater, OK) – Business and government professionals are encouraged to attend “Leadership: Good to Great” on Thursday January 29, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the CREC Training Center, 3304 S. Boomer Road in Stillwater.

The seminar is part of the LeadershipSource Professional Development Program sponsored by the Oklahoma State University Center for Executive and Professional Development and Central Rural Electric Cooperative. The seminar will feature Ken Eastman, head and associate professor in the OSU Department of Management in the Spears School of Business.

This seminar is based on a book by Jim Collins titled Good to Great.  In the book, Collins explores how to take organizations to greatness. Eastman will present Collins’ principles and discuss how to move an organization from good to great.

“Too many companies settle for just being good, when with a few changes, they could become great,” Eastman said. “To become great, leaders must change what they do and not just put more effort into the things they are already doing.
Eastman’s major research interests include leadership and organizational politics.  He has published articles in journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal and The Journal of Applied Psychology.

The LeadershipSource Professional Development Program is a series of seminars that address relevant topics about effective leadership in the workplace. A different Spears School instructor presents each seminar.

“This seminar will give great insight into how a company can achieve the status of greatness.  Eastman uses Jim Collins’ book to educate on the big picture of greatness and how it can be achieved,” said Mandy McKinney, program coordinator in the OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development.

Other seminars for the 2008-09 series include: “Ethics in Today’s Business World” and “Motivation to Lead, Motivation to Follow”. More than 40 people already are registered for the series.

The fee for the seminar is $85 per person. To register or for more information, call the OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development in the Spears School of Business at 405-744-5208 or visit cepd.okstate.edu.
