(February 4, 2009 STILLWATER, Okla.) – The OSU Foundation’s gallery will showcase a variety of mixed media pieces from alumna Sarah Clark’s lifetime collection during a special memorial exhibition open free to the public now until March 27.
Clark, who passed away in an automobile accident in August 2007 at age 26, was an Oklahoma State University alumna who had a passion for art and loved to share her passion with others.
The opening reception for Clark’s memorial exhibit is set for Feb. 5 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Malinda Berry Fischer Gallery and the public is welcome to attend at no charge.
“She (Sarah) loved art her entire life,” said Sarah’s mother, Nancy Clark. “I can’t remember her when she wasn’t working on some art project.”
Sarah Clark graduated from Woodward High School and decided to attend OSU in 1999. She earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art and graphic art in 2004. While at OSU, she discovered her passion for printmaking, particularly lithography. This passion led her to the University of Tulsa to earn a master’s degree with an emphasis on printmaking in 2007.
Sarah Clark used her talents and passions to teach children about art and spent summer breaks working at the Kirk of the Hills Preschool and Summer Arts Ministry. She even traveled to Africa where she worked with Masai children at a boarding school. At the time of her death, Sarah was preparing to work in the Dallas Museum of Art, where she received the prestigious McDermott Fellowship.
The exhibit at the Foundation showcases Sarah Clark’s variety of work including lithography, etching and serigraphy.
“Sarah’s work is so much a part of her that having it here is like having a part of her still with us,” Nancy Clark said. “Her work is very personal so each one has a memory involved.”
Only a few of the pieces in the exhibit will be available for purchase and all proceeds will be donated to the Sarah J. Clark Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to full-time OSU art students.
Named in honor of the Foundation’s former board chairman, the Malinda Berry Fischer Gallery showcases Oklahoma and OSU artists. The gallery serves to strengthen the connection between Oklahoma State University and the OSU Foundation. The gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Oklahoma State University Foundation serves as the private fundraising organization for OSU, as designated by the OSU Regents. Its mission is to unite donor and university passions and priorities to achieve excellence.
