OSU announces faculty promotions, names five new Regents Professors

(TULSA, OK, June 19, 2009) -- The Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents approved promotions in academic rank for OSU faculty members, effective July 1, during its meeting today at OSU-Tulsa.

Receiving promotions from professor to the prestigious title of Regents Professor were Dennis R. Preston, English; John W. Mintmire, physics; Diane M. Montgomery, applied health and educational psychology; Lin Liu, physiological sciences; and Ronald A. Van Den Bussche Jr., zoology.

Associate professors who received promotion to professor were Chanjin Chung, agricultural economics; Shelly R. Sitton, agricultural education, communication and 4-H; Clinton R. Krehbiel, animal science; Haobo Jiang, entomology and plant pathology; Jeanmearie Verchot-Lubicz, entomology and plant pathology; Karen R. Hickman, natural resource ecology and management; Shiping Deng, plant and soil sciences; Jeffrey L. White, chemistry; Karin U. Schestokat, foreign languages; Eric H. Reitan, philosophy; James W. Grice, psychology; Jean Van Delinder, sociology; Betty J. Simkins, finance; John C. Womack, architecture; Keith A. Teague, electrical and computer engineering; Satish T.S. Bukkapatnam, industrial engineering; Jean M. D’Offay, pathobiology; Jerry W. Ritchey, pathobiology; Gilbert R. Holyoak, veterinary clinical sciences.   

Receiving a reappointment as professor, action granting tenure, was Julie A. Thomas, teaching and curriculum leadership. Randal K. Taylor, biosystems and agricultural engineering, received a promotion from associate professor to professor, action conferring tenure.

Faculty receiving promotions from assistant professor to associate professor, action  granting tenure, were Ramamurthy Mahalingam, biochemistry and molecular biology; Michael A. Massiah, biochemistry and molecular biology; Garey A. Fox, biosystems and agricultural engineering; Stephen M. Marek, entomology and plant pathology; Timothy J. O’Connell, natural

resource ecology and management; Jeffrey T. Edwards, plant and soil sciences; Venkatesh Sarangan, computer science; Jon R. Ellis, foreign languages; Paul R. Compton Jr., music; Marty H. Heitz, philosophy; Eduardo Yukihara, physics; Jason S. Maloy, political science; Jeanette M. Mendez, political science; Bin Liang, sociology; Matthew B. Lovern, zoology; J. Craig Wallace, management; Todd J. Arnold, marketing; Xiang Fang, marketing; Donna K. Lindenmeier, applied health and educational psychology; Caroline D. Beller, teaching and curriculum leadership; Khaled Abd E. Sallam, mechanical and aerospace engineering; Jane L. Swinney, design, housing and merchandising; James W. Lish, physiological sciences; Lara K. Maxwell, physiological sciences.

Receiving a promotion from assistant professor to associate professor was Mary H. Bowles, veterinary clinical sciences. Receiving a promotion from instructor to assistant professor was Kaye E. Strom, communication sciences and disorder.

Faculty receiving reappointments as associate professor, action granting tenure, were Wouter D. Hoff, microbiology and molecular genetics; James E. Stine Jr., electrical and computer engineering; Todd P. Hubbard, educational studies.

For OSU-Oklahoma City, Armando Cruz received a promotion from associate professor to professor, science. Receiving promotions from instructor to assistant professor were Michelle Riley, health sciences; David Holder, science.

At the OSU Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa, receiving promotion from assistant professor to associate professor, action granting tenure, were Kent S. Smith, anatomy and cell biology; James D. Hess, chief operating officer, vice president for Healthcare Administration and assistant professor; Christopher C. Thurman, family medicine; and Rhonda L. Casey, pediatrics.

 Receiving reappointments as associate professors, action granting tenure, were Richard A. Wansley, behavioral sciences; and Karlis I. Sloka, pathology. Daniel A. Nader received a promotion from clinical assistant professor to clinical associate professor, medicine.
