OSU-OKC Launches “Buy 2-Get 1 Free” Program Free Tuition, Fees and Books Offered
Friday, April 3, 2009
(April 1, 2009, Oklahoma City, OK) – In an effort to provide financial relief for
college students, OSU-Oklahoma City has launched a Buy 2-Get 1 Free scholarship program.
Students who commit to two consecutive semesters get their third semester totally
free.
Full- or part-time students qualify for the Buy 2-Get 1 Free scholarship, which covers
100 percent of the cost of tuition, fees, required books and materials for their third
consecutive semester.
“The Buy 2-Get 1 Free scholarship will provide financial relief at a critical time
in a student’s academic career,” said Dr. Tim Faltyn, OSU-OKC assistant vice president
of academic affairs. “Students often start on an education tract, and then get overwhelmed
by the cost of books and tuition. This scholarship allows students to complete the
first two consecutive semesters of college, and then get one semester totally free.
This couldn’t have come at a better time with the economy in its current state.”
Faltyn added that the Buy 2-Get 1 Free scholarship differs from other scholarships
in that the focus is on a student’s momentum toward continuing their education, not
financial need or academic achievement. “The criteria for receiving a free semester
are based on a student being committed to continuing their education. It’s not based
on income, grades, athletic ability, field of study or any other qualifier that might
exempt the average college student. Every degree-seeking student is welcome to apply
whether taking three hours or 15.”
Students can qualify for the scholarship by going to www.Buy2-Get1Free.com and applying.
Students then have to meet and maintain certain criteria such as being an Oklahoma
resident, meeting minimum grade requirements and enrolling in the fall 2009 semester.
Student will then be encouraged to enroll in two consecutive semesters. Upon completion
of the second consecutive semester, the third semester is free.
According to Evelyn Bollenbach, OSU-OKC marketing and communications director, more
than 400 students have applied for the scholarship. “The website opened March 23,
which was the first day to enroll for summer and fall 2009. All the marketing up
to this point has been viral. We tested the www.Buy2-Get1Free.com micro-site on a
few students and they told other students via Facebook, Twitter and blogs. Before
we had a chance to roll out a comprehensive marketing campaign, 400 students had applied.”
Scholarships for the third free semester will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve
basis, and funds are limited so applying early is critical. After the funds are used
for the fall 2009 semester, scholarship applications re-open in October 2009 for spring
2010 semester applicants.
Current and potential students can visit www.Buy2-Get1Free.com to learn more about
the scholarship.
