Lecture timely as administration explores new policies toward Russia

(Feb. 9, 2009, STILLWATER, Okla.) – A presentation about Russian studies will be a featured event on Monday, Feb. 16 during Research Week at Oklahoma State University.

Russian history expert Norman Saul will give a lecture titled “Charles R. Crane: A Leading Industrialist, Globalist, Philanthropist and Founder of Russian Studies in America.” The talk starts at 3:30 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room at the Edmon Low Library in Stillwater.

The lecture is timely because the current administration is examining new policies toward Russia, as well as working to heal the rift between the U.S. and Russia, said Lesley Rimmel, associate professor of history at OSU whose department is hosting Saul’s visit.

Saul is a professor of history and of Russian and East European studies at The University of Kansas. The author of several Russian history books, he also has co-edited “Russian-American Dialogue on Cultural Relations.” He is the recipient of many honors including a book prize from the Society of American Foreign Relations.
