Workers this week finished erecting the new Oklahoma State University water tower,
located west of campus near McElroy Road. The tower will support OSU’s new Water
Treatment Plant, which is scheduled to come on line this coming January.
The tower has a 500,000-gallon capacity, is 60-feet in diameter at the ball, and stands
135-feet tall. The tower sits at the highest elevation point on campus and it, along
with several other distribution system upgrades, will ensure OSU can maintain the
same operating pressure available today, even when water is needed for fire protection.
With the new Water Treatment Plant, OSU will have the capacity to meet all water needs
for the campus, as well as provide as much as 6 million gallons per day excess capacity
to the City of Stillwater if necessary. The water source for OSU’s new system is
Lake Carl Blackwell.
