OSUIT's Dr. Scott Newman was recently named as the first Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Fellow.
(Okmulgee) – The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) has selected Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology’s Dr. Scott Newman to pilot a new Fellowship Program. His fellowship started in mid-May and will last until mid-July.

Newman, who joined OSUIT in 2000, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Oklahoma, a master’s from the University of Oxford, and a doctorate from Oklahoma State University. He currently serves as chair of the institution’s Information Technologies Division.

While Newman is the only 2009 Fellow, OSRHE plans to develop a cohort of participants in future years. Through the Fellowship Program, leaders from Oklahoma’s postsecondary institutions will collaborate with senior members of the Regents’ staff on a broad spectrum of activities and initiatives to gain a working knowledge of its core operations and build new and stronger relationships.

Regents’ Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Houston Davis, says, “The new Fellowship Program will serve as a valuable development opportunity for Oklahoma’s higher education professionals, strengthen relations between the state’s postsecondary institutions and the Regents’ staff, and advance the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.”

OSUIT President Dr. Bob Klabenes says that Newman, who oversaw formation of the university’s Information Technologies Division, “is a bright, talented postsecondary leader, whose abilities and experiences make him an ideal candidate for the Regents’ Fellowship Program. I have no doubt that Scott will contribute to, and benefit from, the program in a number of significant and meaningful ways.”

Earlier this year, Newman was selected by The Journal Record and the Tulsa Business Journal as one of the state’s top leaders under 40, and recognized by Computerworld as one of the premier information technology leaders in the nation. Newman is also a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma.
