Sociology Professor to Lecture on Globalization

(Feb. 5, 2009, STILLWATER, Okla.) – Saskia Sassen, the Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology and member of the Committee on Global Thought at Columbia University, will discuss implications of globalization and the global cities during two lectures set for Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Oklahoma State University.
The afternoon lecture is at 3:30 p.m. in Room 408 of the Student Union. The second lecture starts at 7 p.m. in Room 313 of the Classroom Building. Both are free and open to the public.
Sassen is the author of “Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages” and “A Sociology of Globalization.” She recently completed a five-year project for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The project focused on sustainable human settlement working with researchers and activists from more than 30 countries.
