(December 4, 2009 Stillwater, OK) – Marilyn Kletke, professor of management information
systems in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University, received the
Best Practices Award for Distance Learning Teaching from the Oklahoma Distance Learning
Association (ODLA) on November 13.
The Best Practices Award for Distance Learning Teaching is presented to an individual
that excels within recognized synchronous and/or asynchronous distance learning environments
as a faculty member.
“Dr. Kletke’s willingness to learn new technologies coupled with her love and self-sacrificing
attitude is making a real and measurable difference in the lives of her students,”
said Wade Price, manager of Instructional Technology Services for ODLA.
Kletke started her career at Oklahoma State University in 1981 as an assistant professor
in the Department of Management Sciences and Information Systems. She offered compressed
video courses to various sites in the mid-to-late 1990’s, and then asynchronous delivery
since spring 2000.
In addition, she is faculty advocate for MyITlab, which is an online solution designed
by professors that allows users an easier delivery of courses about Microsoft Office
2007.
Recently, she became certified as a Course Reviewer for Quality Matters, an inter-institutional
quality assurance model in online learning. Immediately after completing the online
certification-training program, she was asked to serve on a nationwide online course
review team.
“Dr. Kletke consistently maximizes the capabilities of the technologies at her disposal,”
said Shona Gambrell, distance learning program manager for the Center of Executive
and Professional Development in the Spears School. “She is a well-deserving recipient
of this award.”
