Volunteer ambassadors needed
Tuesday, March 24, 2009
(Stillwater, OK March 24, 2009) -- Any Oklahoma State University student who is interested
in promoting involvement and service to the university and the community is encouraged
to become a Service-Learning Volunteer Center ambassador for 2009-10.
The ambassadors meet weekly with Joyce Montgomery, SLVC coordinator, to develop ideas
and programs to highlight the importance of volunteerism within communities.
This year, the group has formed a team for the big Brothers/Big Sisters “Bowl for
Kids sake,” will assist with cutting and delivering daffodils for the American Cancer
Society, and assisted with the Simon Estes “Run for Education” in Tulsa.
Currently there are 17 ambassadors, and membership is limited to 20, according to
Montgomery.
“Volunteering provides the chance for people who have the ability to help others to
do so, and thus find a greater joy for themselves,” said member Kyle Klufa, Pilot
Point, Texas, mechanical engineering junior. “I volunteer because I have the means,
the time and the desire to help people beyond what the social circumstances would
normally allow.”
Students interested in becoming ambassadors next year, who want to learn more or to
sign up, can call the SLVC at 744-5145.
