OSU board approves personnel actions

(STILLWATER, Okla., March 4, 2010) -- The Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents approved several personnel actions today during its regular meeting on the OSU campus.

The Board approved the appointment of Howard Barnett, who was serving as president of OSU-Tulsa, as president of both OSU-Tulsa and the OSU Center for Health Sciences.  The appointment allows OSU to have a single leadership voice, which will strengthen its academic and medical mission in Tulsa.  It also will allow OSU to more effectively serve students and the community.

Lawrence A. Crosby was named professor, dean, Norman and Suzanne Myers Chair for Excellence in Business, and Richard W. Poole Professor for Excellence for the Spears School of Business, and his appointment conferred tenure in the Department of Marketing.

CHANGES

  • Antonio Camara, Watson Chair of Finance, received a posthumous reappointment as associate professor, conferring tenure
  • Camille F. DeYong, associate professor of industrial engineering, was appointed director of the Masters of Science in Engineering and Technology Management Program
  • Prabhakar R. Pagilla, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, was appointed to the Centennial Professorship in Engineering
  • Sheila G. Johnson, professor and dean of the library, was appointed as Clerico Family Chair in Library Excellence
  • Mary A. Larson, professor and head, library, was appointed as the Doris Neustadt Professor of Library Service
  • Anne M. Prestamo, professor and associate dean, library, was appointed as the Claud D. Kniffin Professor of Library Service.


SABBATICALS

  • Mark Sisson, art, 100 percent sabbatical to create an artwork studio in Michigan and Oklahoma and to participate in printmaking workshops in other parts of the country, Sept. 1, 2010 to Jan. 17, 2011
  • Lisa Lewis, English, 100 percent sabbatical to complete an ongoing project bringing together a collection of her own poetry into a single volume, Jan. 10-May 31, 2011
  • Jonathan Ellis, foreign languages, 50 percent sabbatical to finish a book on Caleron, a Spanish playwright, by traveling to libraries in Spain, the United Kingdom and New York to conduct research on the topic, Sept. 1, 2010, to May 31, 2011
  • Perry Gethner, foreign languages, 100 percent sabbatical to participate in a collaboration to write editions of two tragedies (plays) of the French playwright Corneille by traveling to libraries in Paris, London and New York, Sept. 1, 2010 to Jan. 17, 2011
  • Joseph F. Byrnes, history, 100 percent sabbatical to coordinate and contribute to a bibliographical encyclopedia of the French clergy of the French Revolutionary era by collaborating with colleagues at Universite Catholique de Lyon in France, Sept. 1, 2010 to Jan. 17, 2011
  • John P. McGuire, journalism and broadcasting, 100 percent sabbatical to interview sportscasters to determine the relationship between the sportscaster and listener on issues such as athletes’ preparation and responsibilities, which will require some travel and home-based phone calls, Jan.18-May 31, 2011
  • Jason Maloy, political science, 50 percent sabbatical to complete a book on democratic thought, Sept. 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011
  • Brenda Phillips, political science, 100 percent sabbatical to conduct research on how religious organizations help after natural disasters, particularly how the Mennonite Disaster Service dealt with the effects of Hurricane Katrina, Sept. 1, 2010 to Jan. 17, 2011
  • Celinda R. Melancon, psychology, 100 percent sabbatical to work at New Mexico State University, collaborating with Dr. Guynn on studies of cognitive aging and memory performance, Sept. 1, 2010 to Jan. 17, 2011
  • Judith P. Cronk, theatre, 100 percent sabbatical to visit with six or more colleges/universities to compile data on costume shop management, resulting in a book on the topic, Jan 18-May 31, 2011
  • Tom J. Brown, management, 100 percent sabbatical to serve as visiting scholar at the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University in the Netherlands, expanding his stream of research in corporate reputation and branding, Sept. 1-Dec. 31
  • Vance H. Fried, entrepreneurship, 100 percent sabbatical to work as the Senior Fellow at the Center for College Affordability and Productivity for five weeks at their location in Washington, D.C., working on research focused on innovative business models and institutional barriers in higher ed, Sept. 1-Dec. 31
  • Tom Spector, architecture, 100 percent sabbatical to serve as Visiting Fellow at Clare Hall, Cambridge University, and to work on a book-length research project on ethics and architecture, specifically democratic architecture, July 1-Dec. 31.
