OSU Brass Day to showcase world-class musicians
Monday, January 11, 2010
(Jan. 11, 2010, STILLWATER, Okla.) – Brass Day 2010 will feature performances by Los
Angeles recording artists Andy Martin and Wayne Bergeron on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Oklahoma
State University.
The concert, which is open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Seretean Center
for the Performing Arts in Stillwater.
“Both Andy Martin and Wayne Bergeron are world-class talents,” said Jonathan Martin,
director of jazz studies at OSU. “If you have gone to a movie or watched television
in the past 15 years, you have heard both these incredible musicians.”
Martin is one of the most in-demand trombonists across the country. Bergeron is considered
one of the finest trumpeters in the music business. Bergeron’s big band earned a Grammy
nomination in 2004 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble.
The concert is part of an all-day workshop where high school students converge on
the OSU campus to study with professors Paul Compton, on trombone; Lanette Compton,
horn; Jonathan Martin, trumpet; and James Morrison, tuba.
Tickets for the evening concert may be purchased at the Seretean Center box office.
Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for the public.
The presentation is supported by the OSU Creativity Initiative, the OSU Department
of Music, which is one of 24 departments in the College of Arts & Sciences, Yamaha
and Saied Music Company. For more information, phone (405) 744-8991 or visit http://music.okstate.edu/index.php.
