Kayse M. Shrum
Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences has selected Kayse M. Shrum, D.O., FACOP, as the academic health center's new provost and dean of its College of Osteopathic Medicine, subject to approval by the OSU/A&M Board of Regents. The announcement was made today by Howard G. Barnett Jr., president of OSU's operations in Tulsa.

“We were very impressed with the top notch applicant pool our search committee generated.  I want to thank them for sending us three extremely qualified finalists from that pool.  From this process, Dr. Shrum emerged as the top choice of almost every constituent group involved," Barnett says.

"As a graduate of our college and of the residency program we run for the Oklahoma State University Medical Center and a seasoned administrator, as well as a well respected and involved member of her profession, Dr. Shrum brings all of the skills and attributes we need in a provost and dean as we move the OSU Center for Health Sciences forward to serve Tulsa and Oklahoma.”

Dr. Shrum has spent the past eight years with OSU-CHS as a faculty member, clinician and administrator, most recently as interim vice president of Academic Affairs and chair of Pediatrics. During her tenure, Dr. Shrum has doubled the patient base in Pediatrics, tripled the number of clinical trials in pediatric research,  led curriculum revision, established and personally supported community outreach and service opportunities to benefit children’s health, and has proven herself in the area of fundraising.

"I'm honored by the confidence OSU has shown in me and look forward leading my alma mater to future success," Dr. Shrum says.

The board is expected to consider the appointment at its next regular meeting on Jan. 21, 2011. With board approval, Dr. Shrum's new appointment would be effective Jan. 24, 2011.
