OSU offers 'Up Close' experience to prospective students

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Oklahoma State University will provide high school juniors and seniors and prospective transfer students a daylong, inside look at its campus and academic colleges during its Up Close event in Stillwater, Monday, Nov. 15.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will provide free bus transportation from 18 locations across the state, as well as Wichita, Kan., for prospective students to participate in the event. The Oklahoma bus locations are: Alva, Ardmore, Bartlesville, Edmond, Elk City, Enid, Lawton, McAlester, Moore, Muskogee, Oklahoma City (two locations), Ponca City, Tulsa (three locations), Weatherford and Woodward.

“This is the first year for our OSU Up Close event,” OSU’s Director of Undergraduate Admissions Christy Crenshaw said. “We are happy to provide transportation for students across our state so that they can explore Oklahoma State University without having to find a way to get to Stillwater or finance the trip. This is a unique day for prospective students to experience the energy of our campus and to meet the faculty and staff they will work so closely with if they choose to make OSU their future home.”

Prospective students will have the opportunity to take a closer look at Oklahoma State’s six academic colleges (Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources; Arts and Sciences; Spears School of Business; Education; Engineering, Architecture and Technology; and Human Environmental Science), as well as Veterinary Health Sciences and the Center of Health Sciences.

The day will begin at Gallagher-Iba Arena, where students will have a chance to talk with representatives from OSU’s campus life and residential life offices, the Honors College and many more OSU departments. Each college will customize an agenda that will include a mixture of mock lectures, tours of high-tech labs and discussions with faculty. Lunch will be provided and students will have the chance to tour the Oklahoma State University campus before the day is complete.

Prospective students can register for the event and learn more about OSU Up Close by visiting http://admissions.okstate.edu/upclose or by calling the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 405-744-5358.
