OSU professor nabs top honors for ESPN GameDay production
Tuesday, August 3, 2010
Marc Krein, an associate professor in the School of Media and Strategic Communication
at Oklahoma State University, has been awarded a 2010 Telly Award for his production
of “Behind GameDay” in the multimedia division.
The production was a behind the scenes look at the setup of ESPN’s GameDay, which
was filmed on the Stillwater campus Nov. 29, 2008, for the OU v. OSU football game.
Krein produced the video and served as a video editor/operator for ESPN during the
live production.
Krein’s production partially is based on a rundown sheet and director’s calling of
the program. A rundown sheet offers the entire script in a simplified form and includes
bullet points such as capturing crowd shots or showing graphic displays, Krein says.
“We are very proud of Professor Krein and his work with our sports media students,”
said Derina Holtzhausen, professor and director of the OSU School of Media and Strategic
Communications. “His work is technologically advanced and his students benefit from
his experience in television sports production. This award confirms that the school’s
degree in sports media offers our students the best possible education in the field.”
More than 11,000 entries were received in this year’s competition. This is Krein’s
second Telly since being at OSU. Founded in 1978, the Telly Awards is the premier
award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs,
as well as video and film productions, web commercials, videos and films.
Krein uses this production for student training in his sports media production course. The OSU School of Media and Strategic Communication is one of 24 departments in the college. To learn more visit http://cas.okstate.edu.
