OSU Regents give approval to begin design process for major additions for two colleges in Stillwater

The selection process to choose architects and construction companies to design major expansions of two colleges on the Stillwater campus of Oklahoma State University received approval from the OSU/A&M Board of Regents today.
The companies are being sought to assist the university in the design and construction of an Academic Center for the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences (CVHS) and the expansion and renovation of the College of Human Environmental Sciences (HES).
“These are two premier programs at Oklahoma State University,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “Both the College of Human Environmental Sciences and Center for Veterinary Health Sciences truly embody the land-grant mission of teaching, outreach and research.”
Hargis went on to say the work being conducted by students and faculty in both programs can and does have a direct impact on all our lives.
The proposed Academic Center in CVHS has an estimated cost of $12.2 million. The new facility will be an expansion of the Boren Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Increased student numbers has made the facility inadequate for current student and faculty needs.
The new facility will be an extension of the teaching hospital providing teaching, meeting and office spaces and will include a high-tech auditorium.
OSU is recognized nationally as a leader in veterinary medicine and research. In addition to the teaching hospital, CVHS is also home to the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.
HES is proposing a new five-story addition to the current 60-year old structure. The expansion will be used for state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities and space will also be dedicated for corporate/industry professionals to bring real-world lessons into the curriculum, giving OSU faculty and students opportunities to network and learn from current executives and recruiters.
HES is home to the Departments of Design, Housing and Merchandising; Human Development and Family Sciences; Nutritional Sciences, and the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management.
