Two U.S. Army ROTC cadets at Oklahoma State University, Dane Miodov and Dustin Gabbert, recently competed and won U.S. Cadet Command National Scholarship Awards. They will receive cash awards and an invitation to attend this year’s Association of the United States Army annual convention in Washington D.C. held in mid-October.

“I could not be more proud of these cadets, said Lieutenant Colonel Will Beck, Infantry, U.S. Army, and Military Science Department head at OSU. “To put their accomplishments in perspective, there were only eight national scholarships offered and Miodov and Gabbert earned two of them, based on scholarship, athletics and leadership.”

Miodov, a mechanical engineering technology senior from Edmond, won the Joseph Cribbins Scholarship, and a $2000 cash award provided by the Association of the U.S. Army. Miodov is in his fourth year of his five year MET degree.  He is a cadet battalion commander this fall and was previously awarded the J.D. Metcalfe Scholarship by the Tulsa chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers, and the National Defense Transportation Association Medal. Miodov was named to the Dean and President’s Honor Roll at OSU, has a 3.78 GPA, and is an active member in Lifechurch in Stillwater.

Gabbert, an aerospace engineering senior from Bella Vista, Ark., won The Armed Forces Insurance General Melvin Zais Army ROTC Scholarship, and a $1,000 cash award. He is one of 26 Simultaneous Membership Program Cadets at OSU, those who serve in the Army Reserves or the National Guard. Gabbert was deployed in support of Hurricane Katrina, and completed a year-long tour in Iraq. He maintains a 3.70 GPA and has achieved both the President’s and Dean’s Honor Roll for nine semesters. Gabbert is an officer in the OSU chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and was elected President of ASME for this year. He also serves as a part-time tutor to engineering students.
